What is Tretinoin

By Rene Sacchitella

With the introduction of our new DLS Skincare, we have been receiving a lot of questions about Tretinoin, otherwise known as Retin-A or Retionol, and what it does to the skin. Tretinoin is a universal topical ingredient that drastically changes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scars or textural problems, sun damage and acne by renewing skin cells at a faster rate than what they would do one their own.

So what is Tretinoin? Where does it come from.?

Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A. It works to alter the skin cells by modulating gene expression, rather than inducing cell necrosis (death). The effect of tretinoin is the speeding of skin cell turnover rate, reducing breakouts and producing smoother, younger looking skin. Melanocytes, the skin cells responsible for skin pigment, are suppressed by tretinoin, this decreases skin discoloration and uneven skin tone. As a result, fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, skin feels smoother and looks more evenly colored.  Burning, peeling, and skin redness are common side effects of tretinoin use. This transient skin irritation usually reverses quickly as your skin becomes accustomed to the medication. Tretinoin also makes your skin more photo-sensitive because of its suppression on melanocytes so It is crucial to wear a sunscreen every day while using it.

Since Tretinoin has a wide variety of uses, and is the gold standard for a variety of skin concerns, we here and Denver Laser Solutions have decided to add it to our available products. Tretinoin and Botox are not only both very popular but they also work very well together to provide long lasting results to existing wrinkles. While Botox freezes the muscles for a period of time to soften the appearance, topical Tretinoin will promote cellular turnover to help maximize the benefits of a Botox treatment.

We have 2 distinct products that have this remarkable vitamin A derivative. First is the DLS RA Cream. The RA cream comes in two strengths, .025% and .05%. Both of these products contain powerful, custom compounded Tretinoin treatment that is a clinically proven topical solution to repair the skin concerns discussed earlier. It also stimulates collagen production for a healthier more youthful and even skin tone. Powerful actives penetrate deep within the cellular level to repair the damaged dermal matrix and treat and prevent the formation of acne. You can also purchase our DLS HQRA cream that has the more powerful .1% Tretinoin and loved 8% hydroquinone. Combined these active ingredients synthesize powerful reduction of hyperpigmentation and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to result in clinically proven, age defying results.
