We know it is often hard for our Denver skin care clients to keep up with a proper and healthy skin care regime. With Colorado’s dry weather and strong sunshine it is critical to protect your skin. Here are four skincare must-know’s for the upcoming fall and winter months.
1. You are exposed to less humidity
Moisture helps keep skin hydrated, healthy and young. Autumn’s arrival means drier air and harsher conditions for your skin. If you want to make sure your skin does not suffer from the many side effects of increased dryness, we recommend a fall and winter moisturizer with ingredients such as the following:

2. You are exposed to far more circulating warm, dry and harsh air
Similar to the drier air your skin is exposed to outdoors in the fall and winter, it is exposed to equally dangerous dry heat and air inside homes and offices. When the temperature drops so does the humidity, and this is when the furnaces kick on. Indoor heating strips moisture from the air and your skin. Select a moisturizer with olive phyto-squalane and Vitamin F as these reinforce the skin’s function as a barrier from harmful elements and will help ensure your skin is hydrated and protected during the fall and winter months.
3. Drink, Drink, Drink
We also recommend you make sure you drink at least 64 ounces of water per day and have a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep and in the rooms in which you spend the most time. Some of our Denver skin care patients even have a small humidifier under their desk or in their office. You never can be too protective of your skin!
4. Winter has many hidden dangers to the skin
Many people learn the hard way the dangerous effects winter, the ski season and the high mountains can have on skin. How you care for your skin in the winter months as compared to the summer months can vary widely. During the cold months your skin is exposed to severe elements such as extremely dry and cold conditions. It is also exposed to the reflection of the sun coming off the snow which can cause unprotected skin to burn more easily than it would during the summer months. These conditions individually and combined can lead to broken capillaries and mild to severe skin damage from sun, cold, ice and wind. To protect yourself from all of these elements try a sunscreen with a SPF of 30 to 50 and reapply it every 2 hours to shield skin from strong sun rays and from those which reflect from the snow.
