Remember about this time last year when Korean Skin care trend was at its full peak? There was a lot of buzz revolving about some trendy skincare ingredients ranging from snail slime, to maple tree sap to even bee venom. Something that did stick in skincare was something called “activated charcoal”. You may see it all around pinterest, it's almost become 2017’s coconut oil. Everyone is in love with activated charcoal. But why? It’s because usually those products are also packed with niacinamide. They go great together, like chocolate and peanut butter. So what is niacinamide? What are the benefits of niacinamide and why does it help acne or redness? What does niacinamide come from?
Niacinamide is a derivative of niacin, also known as vitamin B3. This amino acid can usually be found in sources of proteins like meat and eggs. It becomes a great detoxifying agent because it boost immunity to your skin, thus it compliments activated charcoal very well. It does this by being a very capable anti inflammatory agent. Niacinamide reduces viable redness, protects the skin from heat and calms post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Perfect for clients that are suffering from rosacea or adult onset acne. Niacinamide also improves the epidermal barrier performance. This means that it keep the lipid barrier, the layer that protects your skin's moisture levels strong by retaining it better. Thus maintaining elasticity. Essentially aging starts by loss of moisture and inflammation which niacinamide neutralizes in the skin, maintaining a youthful appearance. Since this balances the production of moisture and inflammation niacinamide also creates a smaller pore size by controlling the sebum production. If your skin is balanced, your pores don’t need to open up and excrete more oil creating those unsightly large pores.
Personally I think that niacinamide was made for clients who are either suffering from rosacea or adult onset acne because of its effect on irritation and inflammation. But, this particular amino acid is great for all skin types. From teenagers concerned about pore size to middle aged skin worrying about fine lines being etched into the skin niacinamide can handle it. Since niacinamide helps protect the lipid barrier of the skin we here at Denver Laser Solutions believe that it pairs well with hyaluronic acid. Whether it is to help ensure the longevity of your facial fillers, or you want to add volume into your skin, the combination of niacinamide and hyaluronic acid can give your skin the needed moisture while helping it lock into place. Since Denver Laser Solutions has expanded the DLS Skincare we have also added the “Needle Free Serum”.
